Life Update: How 2018 is going so far
After a nice 3 weeks in the US, we successfully escaped #Blizzard2018, got over our jet lag, and went back to the grind.
In the last post, I made a promise to myself (and my social network) that I was going to do more things that make me forget about my phone. So, how is that going?
I started reading again
I’m currently in the middle of “Improv Nation” by Sam Wasson. It’s a history book about how improv started in America. I’m only 1/3 of the way through it. The beginning is a bit slow for me because it really reads as a history book – very straightforward with facts, dates, and a lot of characters being simultaneously introduced. I’m not too interested in 1960’s-1970’s history and pop culture, so I’m hoping it’ll get better for me once we hit the 1980’s to the present!
I took steps to curb my social media addiction
I did it – I deleted the Facebook app off my mobile phone! This means that I can only access Facebook when I’m on my laptop. If I’m on the go, I no longer have the luxury of mindlessly scrolling while I’m waiting or in transit.
I couldn’t get myself to delete Instagram, LinkedIn, or Twitter, though. Baby steps y’all, baby steps.
I did a Hong Kong hike
With Miguel’s work calming down a bit, we finally have our weekends back. Thankfully, the weather has been cooperating, with temps in the 60’s and 70’s. Yesterday, we finally got to hike Dragon’s Back, one of Hong Kong’s most popular hiking trails. According to many websites, it’s an easy hike but that was a lie. The initial steps had me huffing and puffing, and there were definitely some rocky areas that needed special attention in navigating. But it was all worth it – reaching the top, we got to see some beautiful views of the water and enjoy the breeze!
Here’s to more progress in 2018!
